A total of 22 newasbestos suits were filed in Madison County Circuit Court during the week of April 27 through May 1.

The following claims were filed:

--Gerard Abbott ofMinnesota, a laborer, quality control manager, concrete finisher, block layer, maintenance worker, restaurant manager, home renovator and real estate agent at various locations from 1966 until 2007, claims lung cancer. Abbott is represented by Robert Phillips, Perry J. Browder and Rosalind M. Robertson of SimmonsCooper inEast Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-439.

--Harold L. and Peggy Austin ofArkansas claim Harold L. Austin developed lung cancer after his work from 1958 until 1992 as a foreman at Industrial Insulation. TheAustins are represented by Randy L. Gori and Barry Julian of Gori, Julian and Associates inAlton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-435.

--Gary and Theresa Brown ofIndiana claim Gary Brown developed lung cancer after his work as a laborer, truck driver and UPS driver at various locations throughoutIndiana andOhio from the 1950s until 1994. The Browns are represented by Randy L. Gori and Barry Julian of Gori, Julian and Associates inAlton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-436.

--Giulio and Leonarda Cardella ofArizona claim Giulio Cardella developed mesothelioma after his work from 1968 until 1992 for Mormino andSonsGardenCenter, theCounty ofMaricopa comptroller and GC Plumbing. The Cardellas are represented by Richard L. Saville Jr., Ethan A. Flint and David J. Page of Saville andFlint inAlton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-434.

--Charles and Mariam Carver claim Charles Carver developed mesothelioma after his work for Globe American Corporation, U.S. Navy and Chrysler Corporation from 1941 until 1976. The Carvers are represented by Richard L. Saville Jr., Ethan A. Flint, David J. page and Andrew J. Balcer of Saville andFlint inAlton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-433.

--Joe Castle of Kentucky claims his recently deceased wife, Mary Castle, died of mesothelioma. He says she came into contact with asbestos fibers through clothing he would wear home from his work as a carpenter, strip miner and laborer at various locations throughoutKentucky. Joe Castle is represented by Christopher R. Guinn, Christopher J. Levy, Perry J. Browder and John A. Barnerd of SimmonsCooper inEast Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-430.

--Nileen Copeman ofMichigan, a waitress and laborer from 1970 until 2004, claims mesothelioma. Copeman says she was also exposed to asbestos fibers through her husband, who worked from 1958 until 2004 as a laborer, assembly worker, owner and operator. Her father, who worked as a lineman and division forestry supervisor from 1944 until 1976, would also bring asbestos fibers home on his clothing, according to the complaint. Copeman is represented by Nicholas J. Angelides of SimmonsCooper inEast Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-445.

--Walter Counts of Missouri, a laborer, truck and tractor driver, supply motor operator and hoist operator at various locations throughoutIllinois andMissouri from 1957 until 1988 claims mesothelioma. Counts is represented by Amy E. Garrett and Sean M. Keane of SimmonsCooper inEast Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-452.

--Judith Ann Crum claims mesothelioma on behalf of her recently deceased husband, Don Lewis Crum, who worked as a machinist, forestman, maintenance personnel, Wal-Mart greeter, drywaller and roofer from 1960 until 2008. Judith Ann Crum says her deceased husband was also secondarily exposed to asbestos fibers through his father, Alfred Crum. Judith Ann Crum is represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian and Associates. W. Mark Lanier, Patrick N. Haines, R. Craig Bullock and J. Kyle Beale of The Lanier Law Firm inHouston will serve of counsel. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-448.

--Gary Dithmart ofIowa, a laborer from 1951 until 1978, claims colon cancer. Dithmart is represented by Randy L. Gori and Barry Julian of Gori, Julian and Associates inAlton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-442.

--Sue Dyer ofMinnesota claims her recently deceased husband, Steven Dyer, developed lung cancer after his work from 1965 until 2005 as a maintenance worker, installer, heavy equipment operator, metal framer, cabinet assembler and fireman at various locations. Sue Dyer is represented by Robert Phillips, Perry J. Browder and Rosalind M. Robertson of SimmonsCooper inEast Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-428.

--Delois Fleming ofTennessee claims her recently deceased son, Christopher Fleming, developed mesothelioma after his work as a clerk, driver and laborer from 1994 until 2008. Delois Fleming says her son was also secondarily exposed to asbestos fibers through his father, who worked from 1977 until 1999 as a lab worker at Bridgestone/Firestone. Delois Fleming is represented by Amy E. Garrett, W. Brent Copple and Sean M. Keane of SimmonsCooper inEast Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-449.

--Leonard and Joyce Marie Jansen claim Leonard Jansen developed malignant mesothelioma after his work repairing AC and heating systems and replacing gaskets and serviced circulating pumps on cooling towers. He also says he worked on residential gravity sections used to heat homes and on gas-fired or forced air furnaces and helped to construct Drury Hotels from the 1960s until the 1980s. The Jansens are represented by Donald M. Flack of Flack Law Office inWoodRiver. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-427.

--John W. Johnson ofTexas, a laborer, grinder and maintenance man from 1965 until 1997, claims lung cancer. Johnson says he was also secondarily exposed to asbestos fibers through his father and brother who worked at Tyler Pipe. Johnson is represented by Randy L. Gori and Barry Julian of Gori, Julian and Associates inAlton. Madison County Circuit Court case number:09-L-447.

--Ronald Mitchem Sr. and Karen Mitchem claim Ronald Mitchem Sr. developed mesothelioma after his work performing various jobs within the core room of the foundry, performing final inspections of finished tanks, working as a maintenance supervisor, performing auto mechanic work and performing residential construction work from 1980 through the 1990s. The Mitchems are represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian and Associates inAlton. W. Mark Lanier, Patrick N. Haines, R. Craig Bullock and J. Kyle Beale of The Lanier Law Firm inHouston will serve of counsel. Madison County Circuit Court number: 09-L-441.

--Geraldine Novack ofMassachusetts, a seamstress and cashier from 1935 until 1983 claims mesothelioma. Novack also says she was exposed to asbestos fibers through her family member, Anthony Novack, who worked from 1935 until 1958 as a stove assembly supervisor. Geraldine Novack is represented by Robert Phillips, Perry J. Browder and Rosalind M. Robertson of SimmonsCooper inEast Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-438.

--David Rees ofIllinois, a mechanic, laborer, service worker and coal miner, from 1952 until 1999, claims mesothelioma. Rees is represented by G. Michael Stewart and Jill Price of SimmonsCooper inEast Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-446.

--Franklin Speckman ofOhio, a furnace tender, mechanical engineer,aerospace technology equipment designer, tool designer and plant manager from 1946 until 1980,claims mesothelioma. Speckman is represented by Robert Phillips, Perry J. Browder and Rosalind M. Robertson of SimmonsCoooper inEast Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-444.

--Tives Staten ofKentucky, a furniture deliveryman, laborer, mechanic, construction worker, welder and industrial press setter at various locations throughoutCalifornia,Michigan andFlorida from 1977 until 1998, claims mesothelioma. Staten is represented by Christopher R. Guinn, Christopher J. Levy, Perry J. Browder and John A. Barnerd of SimmonsCooper in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-431.

--Larry Stewart claims mesothelioma on behalf of his recently deceased mother, Lora Stewart, who worked from 1958 until 1967 as a welder at various locations. She was also exposed to asbestos fibers through her relative, William Stewart, who worked from 1947 until 1982 as a heating and air conditioning technician and sheet metal worker at various locations, according to the complaint. --Carol Stout ofMissouri claims her recently deceased husband, Carlos Stout, developed lung cancer after his work at Perfection Bakeries from 1942 until 1942, in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1947 and on the annealing furnace in 1948. Carol Stout says her husband also worked as a carpenter's helper in 1943, a laborer in 1947, assembler from 1948 until 1952 and trim repairman from 1952 until 1972. Carol Stout is represented by Elizabeth V. Heller and Robert Rowland of Goldenberg, Heller, Antognoli and Rowland in Edwardsville. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 009-L-429.

--Iris E. Williams ofMichigan, a teacher from 1968 until 1999, claims mesothelioma. Williams says she was also exposed to asbestos fibers through her father, who worked at Dodge Main inDetroit, and through her ex-husband. Williams is represented by Randy L. --Joseph and Lorraine Wozniak of Nevada claim Joseph Wozniak developed mesothelioma after his work as a molder's helper, infantryman, operator, mail carrier, quality control and superintendent of operations at various locations throughoutIllinois from 1938 until 1985. The Wozniaks are represented by Shane F. Hampton and Paul M. Dix of SimmonsCooper inEast Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-432.
